Bear Hunts

Aug. 2009 - I’ve been on three other bear hunts, 1 in Ontario, and 2 in Quebec and this trip by far has been the best.  Greg and Charlene are excellent hosts, the camp is great, and the bear baits even better.  I’ve seen a total of 7 bears in 2 days,  five of which came in on the second night.  All four of our party tagged out on our second night.  The first Afternoon we even put a stalk down on a big boar.  Didn’t fish much due to running baits with Greg, but were able to land a few northern Pike and Walleye.  The flexibility of being able to choose your own bait sites literally made the hunt.  Great Job Greg and Charlene.

Aug. 2009 - Greg and Charlene run an outstanding bear hunting outfit!  I have hunted with other outfitters in Florida, Texas, Montana, and Ontario.  The quality of the game and management at Holinshead is the best I’ve seen.  I highly recommend hunting with them.  I have no doubts they will have a 100%  success rate this year.  I am not exaggerating this rate.  I don’t believe any hunter at Holinshead will not have an opportunity on multiple bear.  The quality of the stands, baits, and management are second to none!  Greg manages the baits personally, and  does a phenomenal job!!!  From just the party of four I was with, we can verify Holinshead will offer opportunities on multiple bear.  We saw many bear ranging in size from small to 400+ lbs., viewed by Steve Pickard at his stand.  Steve had already harvested his bear and could not take a second one.  He was not able to get out of his stand without spooking the bears that came in after his shot.  So he sat and watched six more bears come in to the bait, and got quite a show from the enormous waddler.  All of us also saw a 400+ waddler from the road, but did not get close enough for a shot.  So, I can verify personally Holinshead has many quality trophy bear available.  After bear hunting at Holinshead this year, I intend to make this an annual trip, and I have no desire to ever hunt bear anywhere else.  The cabins are excellent, equipped with two bedrooms (4 bunks each), and a full kitchen.  They are situated right on Holinshead lake, which is truly majestic.  It is a magnificent lake just to sit and look at.  Charlene and Greg will also provide all the hunters with nice new boats/motors to go fishing.  The lodge there on the lake is so nice, I am considering bringing my wife and kids with me next year.  Please email Charlene at charlene@holinshead.ca and she will answer any questions you may have. The facility and cabin set-up works well, fishing is good and having theoption to fishwalleye and northern along with the bear hunt is a great deal!  You have a variety of bear set-ups to pick from.  We like the drive-to access at Holinshead vs the inconvenience of a fly-in camp.  Success rate has been good on bear kill.  The owners are very accomodating and rates for the hunts are affordable.   George Simon

The bear hunt is a great value for what you get.  Holinshead has kept it's prices down and quality up so why even consider going somewhere else?  The thing I really like is we are allowed some leeway in the way we hunt, it is not as rigid as other outfitters I've been to.   I was able to do some scouting on my own and by the end of the week some of my baits were being hit.  It was a very satisfying hunt!
